Today is officially the first day of spring! To celebrate we are sharing our favourite English countryside escapes that are particularly special throughout the season.
Wildlife in Devon and Cornwall
Puffins return to their breeding colonies on the grassy seaside cliffs in spring and there is a chance to spot seals, whales, dolphins and sharks off the south west coast. April also sees numerous food and drink festivals and a sea of yellow daffodils.
Welly Wanging in the Cotswolds
The Cotswolds is a whimsical place throughout the season with meadows of wildflowers, traditional country village fetes where welly wanging and competitive baking are common place and the world famous Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling event. We also recommend a drive though Minchinhampton and Rodborough common where cows and their calves rule the road.
Bluebells in the Lake District
Spring is one of the best times to visit – the weather is more mild, tourists are fewer and most famously the fells are under a blanket of picturesque bluebells. Take a short hike to see the well loved Herdwick sheep with their distinctive smiling faces.
